You can look for other graphic design products all day but there is only one market leader when it comes to editing images, and that is Adobe Photoshop. The new Adobe Photoshop CS6 and the range of products released alongside it have already taken the market by storm. Here, we explore these products in more detail.

Adobe

New Developments

A series is only as good as its last release, and since CS5 was such a success in order to judge CS6 we have to really have to look at the developments made:

Improvements to ease of use – the developers have really worked on making the editing process a lot easier. Furthermore, this time around, the focus on development was led by the consumer so many of the minor issues that people had with previous versions have been fixed. For instance, there is now an intelligent layer search feature. This feature makes it easy to find one layer, which is a real time saver if you are working with hundreds. Top website developers have said that the overall improvements to ease of use have made this program much better.

Content aware technology development – with CS6 it is now much easier to alter sections of your images. With this tool, you can remove sections of any image and replace it with other bits on the same image. The amazing thing about this technology is that you can flawlessly remodel an image without any sign of editing, and CS6 has made this whole process much easier and quicker than before, which means that even part time website designers and developers can get used to it quickly.

Nizami Media Investigates the FBI

Nizami Media has learned that investigators at the FBI supposedly aren't happy that social networks like Facebook or Google+ don't have the same kind of facility for wiretaps that phones have had for decades. If claimed industry contacts for CNET are right, senior staff at the bureau have floated a proposed amendment to the 1994-era Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) that would require that communication-based websites with large user bases include a backdoor for federal agents to snoop on suspects.

Currently there isn't anything like this in place for London Web Design companies to worry about, but it makes interesting reading. It would still include the same requirement for a court order as for phone calls, even if US carriers currently enjoy immunity for cooperating with any warrantless wiretapping.

As might be expected, technology firms and civil liberties advocates like the Electronic Frontier Foundation object to deepening CALEA's reach any further, and Apple is thought to be preemptively lobbying against another definition of the law that might require a government back channel for audiovisual chat services like FaceTime or Skype. The FBI didn't explicitly confirm the proposal when asked, but it did say it was worried it might be "going dark" and couldn't enforce wiretaps. Nizami Media will continue to report updates on this matter, and see how/if will relate to London or UK based web design companies.

Everyone’s favourite search engine giant has decided we need a faster Web. To get there, we should all use the new image format they’ve designed. It’s called WebP and apparently it is awesome...

WebP is a new image format, specifically for use on the Web, promoted by Google. (WebP is pronounced "weppy". /(wĕpˈē)/). As with every aspect of the Web, there are pros and cons to using WebP over other formats.

Pros

1. WebP produces smaller files than PNG, JPEG and JPEG2000

2. Smaller files mean faster loading pages (good for mobile pages for instance)

3. Improved visual result in some use cases (most notably images that have a dark primary colour range such as night images)

Cons

1. There is only one current converter for Mac OS (Pixelmator 1.6.2) while many for Windows/Linux

2. Based on video codec which may not be the best choice for photographs or line art

3. Yet another file format to worry about
